A Guide to Finding High Quality Homeschool Textbooks and Supplies
A Guide to Finding High Quality Homeschool Textbooks and Supplies
As homeschoolers, we naturally want the best home schooling supplies and curriculum for our children. Each child is an individual though and what homeschool textbooks and supplies may be perfect for one child may not be the best fit for another. Luckily, there are lots of options! But, there's no way you could ever test out each option for each child, even if you only had one child.
TextbooksSo, what's a homeschooler to do? What we do best, research! Finding as much information as you can about different homeschool textbooks and supplies will allow you to select materials that are of high quality and that will work for you and your child.
Talk to Other Home Schoolers
This may seem like an easy answer but just because you know and love other homeschoolers, doesn' mean you always know what homeschool textbooks and supplies they'e using, have tried, or would recommend. So, find whomever you know that homeschools and talk to them, all of them.
Because you know these people personally, and their kids too, you can have the added benefit of insight as to what similarities they share with you and your children; and how the home schooling supplies they have liked may be something you and your child might like (or not like) also.
Read Online Reviews
With the wide use of the internet, you can now find a lot of help with your search for the best homeschooling supplies by reading reviews at the various online homeschool textbook stores. There are countless online reviews about curriculum for homeschool on various homeschool forums and message boards, as well as your state or local yahoo group. Many have a designated spot for reviews, or, take matters into your own hands and just get a discussion going about favorite home schooling supplies.
Many homeschoolers also maintain blogs now about what they are doing, and their life as homeschoolers. Some also post online reviews of the home schooling materials they have experience with. This is a fantastic way to benefit from another homeschooler's experience and opinion of home schooling supplies.
Create a Relationship With a Homeschool Book Store You Can Trust
If you are lucky enough, you may, through word of mouth or your own experience, find a homeschool book store that you can trust to only offer the best curriculum for homeschool. This way, you'll know that if they carry it, it's got to be good.
One marker of a good homeschool book store is that it is run by fellow (and usually very experienced) homeschoolers. Most shops that cater to homeschoolers do so because they enjoy and want to help other homeschoolers. They too know that the search for the best homeschool textbooks and curriculm is a very important, and potentially time consuming process. You can benefit from their support and knowledge, and in return, patronize their shops!
Of course no matter how much you research curriculum for homeschool you'll still need to use it to be able to accurately judge the fit between the homeschool textbook and your child. But, if you try to utilize these ideas (and make sure the store has a good return policy!), then you'll make your search for high quality homeschool textbooks and curriculum much more easy and successful!

Shaman As Healer
Shaman As Healer
The word shaman has been brought into common language from Siberia. Even there, the connotation is that of healer. The shaman's tasks might include praying for a good crop, conducting special occasion ceremonies, reading the future, or interpreting past events.
TextbooksHealing is probably the most important jobs of a shaman.
In his medicine bag, the shaman has a vast knowledge of natural herbs and other plants that hold healing qualities. These he may make into a tea, a poultice, an ointment, or burn as an incense. He may add one or more of the vegetative material to a small fire and smudge the person who needs to be healed.
As healer, the shaman attempts to restore the individual's personal power. The old adage of mind over matter certainly applies to what the shaman does. Implied here, of course, is the notion that the body can heal itself.
Michael Harner in his book, The Way of the Shaman, tells us that shamanism is an ancient methodological system of mind-body healing. Modern science provides numerous examples of the mind healing the body.
If the nature of the person's illness is serious enough the shaman may go into an altered state of consciousness. In the trance state the shaman works to restore the patient's personal power. He does this by direct communication with the Spirit World. In this state, he hears, sees and feels the presence of other entities. It is within this framework that he asks for help to heal his patient.

EBook Readers and Digital Textbooks
EBook Readers and Digital Textbooks
eBook readers are one of the hottest new gadgets around right now. Imagine being able to carry your entire library with you when you travel, being able to easily search through it at the touch of a few buttons, and have the device fit in your purse! And imagine all the trees that wouldn't need to be cut down to make paper.
One path leading to the wider acceptance and use of ebook readers will be their use in schools and universities for reading textbooks, but are the current devices up to the task?
In May of this year, Jeff Bezos acknowledged this by focusing on etextbook use as he introduced the Kindle DX. This new, larger addition to the Kindle family should be better suited for this purpose than it's smaller sibling, the Kindle 2. Definitely the screen shots of the Kindle DX displaying diagrams are looking good. "We're going to get students with smaller backpacks, less load", Mr. Bezos said. He also announced five colleges and universities that will be trying out the Kindle DX in the upcoming fall session: Arizona State, Case Western Reserve, Princeton, Reed College, and University of Virginia
Mr. Bezos also announced that Amazon has reached agreements with three of the leading textbook publishers: Pearson, Cengage Learning and Wiley.
Pilot programs at universities have so far met with mixed results. In several cases, students requested print textbooks after becoming frustrated with the digital textbook. Most of the problems seem to arise from navigational problems. Results so far would seem to indicate that additional features are needed on the devices before the use of ebook readers for reading textbooks can really take off. Classroom use of ebook readers would require advanced search functions, annotations (including shared annotations), and reliable multiple bookmarking functionality for example. Access to Wikipedia would also greatly enhance a student's experience Another problem is mismatched pagination between users of printed and e versions of books. And finally, of course, color would be much better for those anatomical drawings! Looks like we've still got a ways to go before backpack makers need start worrying. Certainly the Kindle DX is currently best of breed when it comes to digital textbooks; the new addition to the Kindle family does include many of the features necessary. It will be interesting to see how well the device is accepted by the students in the trials this fall.

Teaching Textbooks - Homeschool Math Programs - Is it Worth the Money?
Teaching Textbooks - Homeschool Math Programs - Is it Worth the Money?
I have never been a fan of Saxon Math. I used it during my first few years homeschooling because it was the most well-known and most recommended program. If I had it to do over, I never would have used Saxon at all. My kids and I found it tedious to slog through - it had such a public school feel to it. Lots of added on extras, just so the state standards got covered. At least that is how I perceive the program.
TextbooksIn the early grades (K-6) I prefer to use something like ABeka or Horizons and then switch to the "Key To" series" for reinforcement in fractions and decimals, and then switch to Teaching Textbook after that.
My reasons for this are that the very early grades (K-3) are straightforward and easy to teach, and I never saw the point in overwhelming a young child with so many problems and exercises to practice on the basics (except for drill work with multiplication tables). Also, as the math difficulty increased with things like long division, fractions and decimals, my children didn't find their explanations and examples to be adequate.
When my now 15-year-old son was 13, I got him the Teaching Textbook Pre-Algebra program. There is a corresponding white board lecture on CD-ROM for each lesson in the textbook. My son was able to understand most things without extra help or explanation from me. Face it, most homeschool parents are not math majors and don't remember much about Algebra (that was only 20 years ago!). It matters on how well the explanations are done for us as well. I couldn't count the number of times I have looked at math lessons and had to understand the explanations in order to help my child.
Fortunately, with Teaching Textbook, there was very little of this, at least much less than I have had with any other math program. I also felt that it left my son very well prepared for the Algebra course he is taking this year in tenth grade and he is having no problems keeping up.
It is true the Teaching Textbook program is expensive. However, you could very well get a bargain on a used program on E-bay. Also, I have always saved my pennies to buy expensive programs when it really counts, because you will really appreciate the extra help with those tougher high school math courses.
In short, forget buying the .00 math Saxon program for your first grader with all of the bells and whistles, when you really don't need it. Instead, save yourself valuable time, frustration and money by buying a top-quality program, like Teaching Textbook, down the road, when you will really need and appreciate it.

Textbooks That I Can Read Online
Textbooks That I Can Read Online
The textbook companies will never publish textbooks online unless they can make us pay for them. Although some companies have come up with an idea to put their ad's in the textbooks that I can read online.
TextbooksThis will greatly reduce the price that student's will have to pay for the online version. But one problem with these ad's in your textbooks is they will be very distracting. I believe this wouldn't be good for the students. But that is just my own opinion.
Earlier this year I was looking for textbooks that I can read online. With the prices of college textbooks rising every year, some students that aren't well off will never be able to afford college.
Now if they would make an ad that would only pop up once you open the book and close it that would be a different story. It would make the textbooks less and would also provide a way not distract the students that read textbooks online.
While searching for textbooks that I can read online, I came up with two worthwhile sites:
Wiki Books
TextbookRevolution
TextbookRevolution is a source for free education materials. But most likely you aren't going to find a textbook that you can read online unless it is an outdated version. Don't get discouraged though, these out-dated textbooks still have the same core information in them. So you might be able to get by with them if you are in a bind.
Wiki Books is a community for creating a free library of books. Once again you will probably not find the books that you currently are using for college. But you can still find books on the same subject if you had to write a report or term paper.
After I searched for textbooks that I can read online, I came across some interesting facts about students pirating textbooks online. It would probably be a good idea not to get mixed up in this type of thing since the FBI is already busting students for their actions.

Buying Used Textbooks For Your Schooling
Buying Used Textbooks For Your Schooling
You probably are having some issue with getting the books that you need for your schooling. Often times they are very high priced and are not available at all schools. Why not think about used books for your schooling?
TextbooksThese used books are not that hard to find, you just have to know where to start looking for them and what you are willing to pay for those certain books. That way, you will be ready to get them when they come around and are at the price that you want them for.
Getting used books that will work for your particular course is growing in popularity, as well as growing in need for most college kids have very little money to spare. Often times college kids are struggling to make it in the world, due to the high cost of living and possibly many college kids are actually living off the campus.
It's not that hard to find the books that you need in the college bookstore, but you might have a harder time finding used books there. Another thought is to see if the bookstore at your college can help you to get these used books for a good price. They might be able to order them for you if you are willing to wait a little longer than the new books.
A good place to look for used books that will help you with your classes is on the Internet. You might be able to find these books through an online bookstore as well as on online auction sites like eBay. Another good idea is to look at your town's free cycle group and see if someone has gone through your particular course. You might be able to get the textbooks that they used for your courses as well.
When you started looking for your used books, you probably never really thought about where you were going to get them from, really. This is not an uncommon thing as most people don't even realize that they have these books for sale along with the new books that you find in all the right places. You can get your used books for school at a very good price if you are willing to take the time to look for them and are willing to look in more than one place for them. It might take more then one time of looking to get the used books that you need for school, but you can do it with a little effort.

How to Create a Paperless Classroom
How to Create a Paperless Classroom
Currently the idea of a paperless classroom is still a future concept for many educators, whilst traditional educators still cannot recognize the advantages of a paperless education. What are the advantages of going paperless, and how can students benefit from it?
TextbooksOne obvious saving is environmental. Schools, Colleges and Universities often promote the idea of environmental awareness, but the often excessive use of paper by these institutions, is itself harmful to the environment. Going paperless helps our environment.
Traditional Educators depend on printed textbooks, this resource is often outdated once they have been printed, and many students can access more up to date resources on the
Internet. eBook textbooks are the answer, as traditional publishers today are going electronic, future textbooks could be sold in eBook form, and printed form.
The advantage of eBook textbooks are obvious, they save paper and money. eBooks are cheaper than often academic printed textbooks. If ordered from overseas, printed textbooks are also subjected to local import duties, increasing the price. eBooks can be simply downloaded, anywhere in the World. Only publishers and bookstores benefit from the need to purchase a printed textbook.
Laptops are getting cheaper, and smaller. The affordability of a laptop means more students can afford one, and often for the price of several textbooks- you can purchase a reasonable laptop. The savings to students in the long term are considerable, as they also save on notepads, stationary and time.
The future is online for most people, technology is getting cheaper. The current generation being educated for the future are internet savvy, and prefer MP3's to CD's, YouTube videos to DVD's, and in many cases eBooks to traditional books. So why not embrace the future, instead of protecting the past?.
Creating a Paperless Classroom
1. Use textbooks that are in eBook form, and source materials relating to the material through the internet- much of this is free. You can supplement this material through YouTube, national geographic and other video resources.
2. Insist on homework and projects being written and created in word. This could be emailed, saved in a flash disk. Corrections can be made more easily, and each student could have their work in a PDF file- once the term is completed.
3. Powerpoints are the future, and they are getting more sophisticated. After teaching, students can store it for revision on their laptops.
4. Imaging, Charts, and diagrams are not done by hand anymore- They are created on computers. Replacing the antiquated, time consuming method of creating these on a computer is common sense.
5. As the online community gets larger, digital art is replacing traditional art. Teaching students how to create digital art is way forward- often leading to a possible career or business for many artistic students.
Embracing the future in Education can place yourself and your students to create a life after studying. And this is the aim of every educator to create useful citizens, who are ready, and skilled for the future. Traditional educators may dispute this, but all trends show that technology savvy people, have a better way to survive and thrive, then those who reject technology.

Trade Used Textbooks For Cash
Trade Used Textbooks For Cash
Many students may not know that they can take their used textbooks to a variety of places and get cash back for them. In most colleges, universities and community colleges textbooks are recycled all the time. Generally speaking, if a class is going to go from one semester to the other, there will be a great need for used textbooks.
TextbooksOne of the first places to start is the college bookstore where the textbooks were first purchased. There will be several times during the year that used textbooks will be bought back by the bookstore and depending on their need a student can get half of their money spent or more. It really depends on the book. At other times, they may only get a few dollars back but it is a good idea anyway.
Another way to get money for used textbooks is to advertise on a bulletin board. Around most colleges and universities there are students who need to find textbooks for undergraduate and graduate classes. Let's face it. With new textbooks costing anywhere between 0 and 0 or more per course, it is a wise thing to advertise those you don't need anymore. Often you can get more for your textbooks by advertising them; you can also advertise in the school newspaper.
There are a variety of online sites now that allow you to sell your books online. They will either buy your books or you can offer your books for sale. You can also purchase used textbooks at these sites. A Google search for used textbooks will bring up more sites than you can imagine.
Some of the things to keep in mind when you have used books for sale:
1. Make sure they are in good condition.
2. If you think you are going to sell them back or sell them to someone else at the end of the term, don't mark in them. Also, don't use highlighters. You will get more money for a book in perfect condition than one that looks used.
3. Check the bookstore to see when they are going to sell it back.
4. Some bookstores have a way that you can check to see whether the book is being used. For instance, with some websites you can actually check the ISBN number to see the amount you can get in buy back.
5. Be sure to include your email or phone number if you are selling them on a bulletin board.
6. Go online and check out the various places that buy used books and post yours for sale.
You may not make a big profit from selling your used textbooks, but you will save on the cost of new ones for yourself.
One other way that you can be of help with used textbooks is to send them overseas. There are many programs that ask for textbooks of any kind as long as they are new. If you can afford to let yours go, this is a worthwhile cause.

The Advantages of Digital Math Textbooks for Virtual Mathematics Instruction Considered
The Advantages of Digital Math Textbooks for Virtual Mathematics Instruction Considered
One of the biggest problems when teaching mathematics is moving all the kids in a classroom forward, when some of the kids are stuck on challenges of algebra. You can't really go onto higher math, until the kids understand how to work the algebra problems, and have mastered those skills. If not they will merely get all of the new problems incorrect, even if they know what to do, and are using the right equations for the right types of word problems.
TextbooksThis is why I believe that perhaps the digital textbooks might provide some assistance. If a digital textbook is in the cloud, and it only allows the student to advance after they complete so many problems of a certain type, then the student could not move forward on to the next math topic until they've mastered those skills. In doing this we would prevent kids who are lagging behind, from dragging down the rest of the class's momentum moving forward, because perhaps they didn't do their homework, or got lost on a certain type of math.
There was just a terrific write up recently in Campus Technologies titled; "Reinventing the College Textbook - A Wake Forest Professor Discusses a Digital Textbook Project that Uses a Non-Linear Approach to Leaning" by Bridget McCrea which was published on June 22, 2011.
Although this article didn't specifically discuss what I am proposing here, it gives all the background on what the future textbooks will be capable of, and with the right hardware and software, there's no reason we cannot keep all the students moving forward at the proper levels, with what is most appropriate for that individual student.
In fact, once someone has a digital textbook, they could work at their own pace merely going into visit the professor for a consultation once per week, meanwhile the professor would know how well each student is doing in real time, based on how far they've progressed in the textbook, connected to the cloud while downloading the next section. Am I trying to rewrite the way we teach math in our colleges and universities, perhaps even at the high school level? Yes, I think that is exactly what I'm doing.
You see, going to school I noticed some kids getting behind on certain types of math, and once they did they had trouble during the rest of the school year. They got left behind, and they learned to hate math, and therefore avoided those mathematical classes in the future. We live in an age of technology, and we need all of our students to be able to do not only basic math, but also higher end math as well. And this might just provide the solution we need to get there. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Want To Upgrade As A Paralegal?
Want To Upgrade As A Paralegal?
Paralegal Careers are available in law firms and legal departments of both Government agencies and Private Organizations. Schools and institutions in which you can advance or begin your Paralegal training are available both online and off line.
TextbooksNote that a school offering degrees, training and certificates in Paralegal programs may not be accredited to the national paralegal associations and, the American Bar Association may not have approved such a school.
Do not enrol into a school or institution that has no affiliation with The National Federation of Paralegal Association or approved by the American Bar Association. The National Federation of Paralegal Associations recommends that a person should have a bachelor's degree to practice as a Paralegal, though this recommendation falls short by almost 50% according to a survey conducted recently to check the qualifications of practicing paralegals in the Unites States, employers are sticking to a bachelor's degree as the basic entry requirement for a paralegal.
This is, no doubt, because the work of a Paralegal entails a commensurate intellectual capacity, just as a lawyer should have, to be able to discharge legal functions either in a law firm or in the legal department of an organization or Government agency.
However, some people who are already working in a paralegal environment may enrol in institutions that offer Paralegal certificates to upgrade their status, but as said earlier, such a person should be a bachelor degree holder.
The paralegal field is vast, so you can choose classes to prepare you for public administration, policy-making, ethics and public responsibility, interviewing and research techniques, writing, introductions to criminal law, commercial law, government law, litigation and management.
To recap, do not enrol in any institution that is not approved by the American Bar Association, most employers will not employ applicants who hold certificates or degrees from such institutions in the United States.

Homeschool Textbooks - 3 Reasons People Use Them and How to Avoid Burnout
Homeschool Textbooks - 3 Reasons People Use Them and How to Avoid Burnout
In the early days of homeschooling, homeschool textbooks were hard to find. Now there are so many of them it's hard to know what to choose. There are several reasons people use homeschool textbooks. Here are a few of them and some tips on how to avoid burnout if you use them.
Textbooks1. You want someone to hold your hand through homeschooling. Many people think they are not qualified to homeschool and want someone to guide them through exactly what to do.
2. You want to be sure to "get it all done". People think the public school systems are able to use textbooks and teach the children what they need to learn. Therefore, they think that homeschoolers need to have textbooks to complete a year of school.
3. Textbooks are better able to keep you on track. If you follow a textbook, you know exactly how far into the year you are and whether you are behind or not.
The fact is that people who use homeschool textbooks tend to have a higher burnout rate. If you use a textbook and find that it is too difficult or too easy or doesn't fit your child's learning style, you either need to adapt the curriculum or plod through the year.
One way to avoid burnout is to vary the learning/teaching style that you are using. Children who like workbooks will probably enjoy sitting and filling them out for an hour or more a day, but children who are more hands-on learners may struggle. If this is the case in your home, find ways to reinforce the material in the textbook without having to read text and answer questions. Take field trips, act out the war or time of history that you are studying, do experiments, draw pictures or do art projects related to the text.
Sometimes parents enjoy using checklists instead of homeschool textbooks. They still keep them on track, but provide a more varied approach to homeschooling.

Cognitive Styles of Learning
Cognitive Styles of Learning
The secret of getting better grades in college is actually much easy than you realize. You probably know some students struggle hard still get bad grades in school. And you also listen about those students, who get 'A' grade with low effort. This is due to cognitive style of learning. The students who work hard but do not use their cognitive style of learning get bad grades in exams.
TextbooksThere are three main cognitive styles of learning listed below, and key to get better grades:
* Visual
* Auditory
* Kinesthetic
Visual
The people, who use their visual cognitive style of learning, learn more by seeing the things than feeling or hearing them. These students learn much more rapidly by looking the things, or seeing any diagram that is explaining something.
Auditory
These students use their auditory ability to learn the things. They hear the things more rapidly than seeing or feeling them. They learn quickly by listening to a tape or paying attention on the words of the teacher delivering lecture. The auditory learner students will struggle hard to read the textbooks or academic notes.
Kinesthetic
These people are good learner by feeling things physically, and emotionally. The kinesthetic people are introverted, quiet, and want to remain alone. They enjoy their surroundings, and interpret their own meanings. These have creative mind, and have the hardest time in class, because, all the teaching in the class is visual or auditory in nature.
Surely, you have one of these three cognitive abilities. Use that ability in proper way to learn the things, and get good grades in school or college.

How Do You Play Sudoku?
How Do You Play Sudoku?
Sudoku originated from Japan. It is basically a mind game, a number puzzle and its popularity in these modern times have been compared to that of the popularity of the Rubik's Cube in the 80s. Newspapers, magazines and even math textbooks and online sudoku games - only lately - have popularized the game, Sudoku. Because it is challenging and because it offers a different form of intellectual diversion from that of modern technology such as television (if you can call television and intellectual diversion at all), people and even kids have taken easily to Sudoku games.
TextbooksBut how is Sudoku played? Sudoku is a number game made up of a series of grids. The grids are usually within a big nine by nine grid with nine three by three smaller grids. The primary objective or aim of the game is to place the numbers 1-9 into each grid units. You may not add the numbers and look for the sum of the numbers in the rows and columns.
However, there are three mechanics or rules of the Sudoku game:
1. The numbers 1-9 must only appear once in each column;
2. The numbers 1-9 must only appear once in each row; and
3. The numbers 1-9 must only appear once in each 3x3 grid.
Once these three rules are kept in mind, the player can now proceed by searching the puzzle for clues. Most players start by looking for numbers that appear in the first puzzle. For example, if the number 5 appears in the first puzzle, check if the number 5 also appears in the three by three box. But remember, this number must only appear once in each column and in each row! Next, after looking at the three by three boxes for clues, you must make sure to fill in the numbers 1 to 9 in the columns and rows that hold most of the numbers. If there are only two numbers left that are not in the row or column, do the process of elimination method to find out where to place these last two remaining numbers left. Check the columns and rows to locate the two missing numbers and if you have eliminated one of the chances on each column or row, there is a possibility for you to fill the line that you are playing in.
Of course, difficult and more complex Sudokus will also require more analysis and technique from the player. However, this is what makes the game popular. As Sudoku players gain more mastery, they move on to more challenging Sudokus. Sudoku game definitely calls for and develops critical thinking in a person.

What Every American Child Should Know About The Women's Suffrage Movement That's Not In Textbooks
What Every American Child Should Know About The Women's Suffrage Movement That's Not In Textbooks
In history class, most students see the pictures of the women in long white dresses peacefully picketing the White House seeking the right to vote. What they don't see is the ugly truth about what happened to these women and their resourcefulness in turning adversity into victory. This is shown with reasonable accuracy in the movie, Iron Jawed Angels. A proper Learning Guide to the film should show teachers how to turn the movie into an inspiring and informative classroom experience; one that students will long remember.
TextbooksIn 1917, the National Women's Party -NWP- led by Alice Paul picketed the White House demanding that women be given the vote. After the First World War began, the "Silent Sentinels" were assaulted by violent crowds and were arrested on false pretenses, such as blocking the sidewalk. Most Americans and the federal government felt that in time of war, the country should be unified. Alice Paul and the NWP pointed out that women hadn't been given a chance to vote for or against the war and that therefore they had no obligation to support it.
After grossly unfair trials, the picketers were imprisoned under harsh conditions and subjected to treatment that would be considered torture today. When the public learned about the mistreatment of the suffragists, it was outraged by the government's actions. Despite being arrested and treated brutally in prison, Alice Paul and other militants refused to give in and kept putting pressure on President Wilson to support the suffrage amendment.
Iron Jawed Angels can be an effective tool in showing students rarely taught historical events and facts, such as:
1) Alice Paul and the suffrage movement's militant wing held nonviolent protests demanding the right to vote; they were assaulted by crowds of men and denied police protection;
2) The militants' nonviolent protests were suppressed by the government through false arrests, unfair trials, imprisonment in harsh conditions, and what can accurately be described as torture;
3) While strictly adhering to peaceful demonstrations, the suffragists withstood the violence, imprisonment and torture; refusing to back down, the suffragists continued their protests;
4) The 19th amendment passed primarily due to the efforts of the National American Women's Suffrage Association -NAWSA- and its leader, Mrs. Carrie Chapman Catt; another important factor was the public outcry at the way the "Silent Sentinels" were treated, as well as respect for the strength of the suffragists' commitment; and
5) At about the same time that Mahatma Gandhi pioneered nonviolent methods of promoting political and social change, the NWP and Alice Paul independently developed similar tactics in the United States.
Iron Jawed Angels will inspire students to study the movement for women's equality, one of the five great advances in human rights in the U.S. since the beginning of the 20th century. The other four were the movement for equal treatment for black Americans and other minorities, the procedural protections given to persons accused of crimes (achieved primarily through court decisions), granting access and other rights to the disabled (achieved through legislation), and the extension of equal rights to homosexuals, including the right to raise children and to marry. Interactive WhiteBoard in the Classroom
Interactive WhiteBoard in the Classroom
Today, education plays a major role in every person's life. As it has the power to develop your skills, set and brighten up your life, it is necessary for any educational institution to provide a good learning environment using the latest technologies. There are many ways, like using an interactive whiteboard: computer, playing game board, practical equipment, etc. that the school or college can implement in the classroom.
TextbooksGenerally, the essential thing for a class is a teacher, students, blackboard, chalks,, book and a classroom. If we have all these things, the environment is suitable for teaching. However, the main idea here is to provide schooling which should be relevant, meaningful and useful to the students. Explaining something orally wouldn't make any sense.
Whatever the concept, students should get a clear idea about it. It means you sometimes have to show them pictures, images that are related to the session you are taking. For example, imagine a scene when a teacher is teaching about the digestive system. If the teacher explains orally, the students wouldn't get the message perfectly. It is also a complicated task for the teacher to draw the digestive system on the board.
So what's the solution? Use an interactive whiteboard. As the name implies, it is a huge white board, which will display the contents of a computer through a projector. You can see anything that is there on the system. You can find many resources and templates available online or on CDs or DVDs that can be used along with the interactive white board. So create a wonderful environment for your students by using a smart board and other latest technologies.

EMT Vs Paramedic
EMT Vs Paramedic
People are often confused about the job specifications when it comes to EMT vs paramedic, and sometimes the two jobs are even believed to be interchangeable. A basic EMT, or emergency medical technician, is different from a paramedic, although paramedics are also technically EMTs with slightly higher skill levels and training. EMT paramedic jobs are typically referred to as paramedic jobs, while basic emergency technician jobs are referred to as EMT jobs, though they are sometimes referred to as all in one: EMT paramedic
TextbooksEMT paramedic careers start out the same as basic EMT careers. EMT-Paramedic certification is more complex than EMT-Basic certification, though. The biggest difference is in the number of training hours involved and the on-the-job skills that the individuals are allowed to perform. Basic EMTs undergo 120 to 150 hours of training, while EMT Paramedic certification requires anywhere from 1,200 hours to 1,800 hours of training. Many EMT paramedic jobs require a two-year degree program, but some programs can be completed more quickly, allowing graduates to get a job in the field as fast as possible.
EMT and paramedic careers have a much broader scope of job duties compared to EMT basic careers. Paramedics are allowed to break skin, while basic EMTs are not. Paramedics can give shots and use more advanced airway management devices to help support the patient's breathing, and in many states they are trained to use as many as 40 medications. Basic EMTs, on the other hand, can only use asthma inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, glucose and oxygen.
For those considering EMT vs paramedic careers, you may want to start out with your EMT-Basic certification and see if the career is right for you, then continue on to the next level of certification. There is also an intermediate level between basic and paramedic EMTs in some states. This is a challenging job without a lot of prestige, but the rewards of knowing you're saving lives can make it more than worthwhile. A local school or technical institute can provide more information. Institutions offering quality EMT and Paramedic Programs include National College, Medix College, Keiser Career College and Sanford-Brown College.

Statistics on Adults Returning to College
Statistics on Adults Returning to College
Due to the economy these days, and the huge number of newly graduated youngsters, the job market is a fierce competitive monster to be reckoned with. Many older, more experienced, adults are using a return to school to add extra armor to their resume in an attempt to come out on top. But the process of making that return can be a long arduous fight all on its own.
TextbooksMost employees over 35 have disadvantages they must tote along with them through their returning education years. They have families to care for, financial instability due to unemployment, or they contend with their unsatisfying job that they must cling to for dear life until they are able to earn that certification that will allow them to advance onto something greater. Battling all of these added troubles can be tiresome, but if you want something better for yourself, you have to make sacrifices.
Now, it seems that many older adults are returning to college and deciding to make those sacrifices. Some find ways to squeeze schooling into their already hectic lifestyle by waking up before dawn to study, or attending weekend, or online classes. Some other adults returning to college will take on a full workload during the day and then attend classes afterward for some nighttime college schooling.
Student admissions over the age of 35 have climbed in numbers, especially in the last 10 years. Adults returning to college now make up almost 20% of enrollment these days, which is double what it used to be when they were the young 18-year-old demographic. These days two in every five college students are older than 25.
Online colleges have become the best ally to older adults who wish to progress in the competitive workforce. About 75% of colleges offer online courses in the U.S. alone. The University of Phoenix Online boasts 63,000 students attending already with numbers rising. Adults returning to college to finish a bachelor's degree or earn some type of certification tend to gravitate towards these types of methods because it allows them to attend a class at home while watching over their children, or allot their time given for school in a more convenient way.
The numbers on adults returning to college is on the rise, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Soon, the income gap between college graduates and non-grads will grow even larger and education will be more important than ever.

Donating Used Textbooks
Donating Used Textbooks
At the end of each semester, professors across the country make decisions on the textbooks they are going to use for their classes. Sometimes this is done through a committee and often it is done by a department. Students are always ready to sell their used textbooks back to the bookstores and if their edition of the book isn't going to be used again, the bookstore will not buy the book back.
TextbooksSometimes you can sell your books online and sometimes they are too old to sell. There is another way though if you just want to get rid of them: you can donate them to worthy causes.
Used textbooks are always needed in a variety of populations. People who are incarcerated, low income students and students in other countries are in particular need of any kind of textbook. There are also a variety of programs across the world that will take textbooks for different reasons.
Some of the programs that you can donate textbooks include:
1. Books for Africa -- although their emphasis is on elementary grades, they are doing great work for children in Africa who would not have access to books or textbooks without programs to help. You can find out more at their website online
2. Sudan-American Foundation for Education -- they take books for elementary, college and universities. They have several projects that help the youth and older students in their area.
3. American Medical Students Association -- if you are a medical student or know someone who is, and you are ready to let go of some of your textbooks, this is a great place to donate. They take medical textbooks and journals. They also list several other places that accept donations of used textbooks. You can find out more at their web page on the Internet.
4. Better World Books -- this organization gets their books by doing book drives on 1600 campuses world wide. They are always looking for other universities and colleges to help them in creating these drives. You can find out how you can help your college help them through their online website.
These are just a few of the worthy programs where you can send your books. When you are donating to programs like these it is important to understand that they each have a specific way to donate books. You will be wise to go to their websites to see what you need to do so they can get your books quickly. Addresses and opportunities to donate are available as well.
Donating used textbooks is a great way to get rid of books that you would otherwise throw away. You can also donate other books to these causes.

College on a Budget - Saving Money on Textbooks by Renting Textbooks Instead of Buying Them
College on a Budget - Saving Money on Textbooks by Renting Textbooks Instead of Buying Them
Every new semester starts with a new syllabus and new set of textbooks. Books in college are often huge and bulky and cost over 0. Also, save for maybe one or two, the entire set becomes redundant once the semester is over and has to be sold or discarded at one tenth the price. Now, there is a simpler way to get the entire set of college textbooks at just a fraction of the price - textbook rentals. These are special services offered all over the country which make life much easier for college students.
TextbooksRenting textbooks is the best short term method to save some money and lower textbook costs. Researches show that if a student uses such a textbook rental, he or she spends just about 0 to 0 a year, depending on the course, as opposed to a student who buys the textbooks and spends about 00 on average per year.
Many schools through the country encourage students to rent textbooks instead of buying them. Not only does it save money, it also saves space. Most students have no space to accommodate the increasing number of textbooks they collect through college.
These books are heavy and take up too much storage space since there is a new edition every year and last year's textbooks are difficult to sell. The easiest method is to use a rental service which can mail the entire set of textbooks you need for the semester for a 15 or 30 day period.
A good textbook rental service does not even charge the student for shipping and once the semester is over, the student can easily return the textbooks postage paid. It really is that simple!
Textbooks are an asset and have a long term usage. These rentals understand that and use their textbook renting service to assist various students by helping them the same textbook through the semester. A used textbook can be of great use. Many students make small notes on the side or even at the back, some highlight the important notes in a chapter and all this information becomes quite handy for the person using the textbooks next. All a student needs is the title, the author and the ISBN number and they can have the book delivered right to their doorstep.
Textbooks give us knowledge and must be respected. Buying a new set every time and discarding it is a shame and also adds to the garbage. Not only do using textbook rentals make for a cheaper option, it is also a greener option as each student is helping the natural world by using up lesser paper.

How to Save Hundreds of Dollars in Cash Money on Your Over-Priced College Textbooks
How to Save Hundreds of Dollars in Cash Money on Your Over-Priced College Textbooks
The jury, consisting of university students all across America, have spoken. College bookstores across the nation have been unanimously found guilty and convicted of charging ridiculous amounts of money for college textbooks and the prices seem to never stop climbing. Luckily, there are a few remedies that I am going to share with you. What is really disheartening about the risen textbooks is that it makes it even harder for students to pursue their academic career goals when you couple this revelation with the rise in tuition costs.
TextbooksWhen I began my college career I couldn't believe how much I was paying for the reading materials. Some books were in excess of 0 and I didn't quite understand why. Now I've figured it out. Bookstores inflate prices to pad their pockets. It's as simple as that. That's why I decided to write this article in the first place.
This method has worked for me time and again and I'm utterly convinced it will work for you too.
Step 1:
Contact your instructor well before the session starts and ask them if it would effect your grade negatively if you were to use the previous edition of the required course material. You can usually find your instructors contact information on your college websites faculty directory.
Keep in mind that with most university textbooks there are only a few minor changes in the newer edition. Most instructors are well aware of this and since a substantial number of them are also upset by the rising costs, they will be willing to work with you.
Step 2:
Go to one of my favorite online bookstore Abe Books or Amazon and do a search for your required textbook, only instead of searching for the current edition search for the last edition. For example, if the required textbook is "Composition 101 7th edition," type in "Composition 101 6th edition" instead. You'll most likely find a good amount in stock at up to 97% less than what the "7th edition" would have cost. That's no exaggeration either. The last edition technically loses all value in the market once the newer edition hits the shelf. However, this is only an illusion to sucker you into paying more for practically the same information. Make sure you have a long enough window of time to have your books shipped to you before the class starts as well.
Alternative plans of action and more textbook tips:
If for some reason your instructor insists that you absolutely must have the newest edition of the text and convinces you that your grade is dependent upon it, go back to Abe Books and get the imported or international version of the text. For example, you will type in "Composition 101″ 7th international edition. Find the cheapest listing and add it to your basket.
In addition, it's probably a good idea to play with the option of renting your textbook a reputable textbook rental website. Compare the price of the international version of the required textbook you found at Abe Books with that of the standard rented version from Campus Book Rentals. Choose what you feel is best for you. Campus Book Rentals is fantastic because they offer free shipping both ways and they have a tremendous selection. Avoid using your campus's fuddy duddy textbook rental store as they purposefully restrict the variety of their book offerings in order to systematically force you back to the regular book store in order to buy it at the highway robbery retail price ( sometimes up to 0! per book).
Finally, once the semester is over don't forget to try and resell your books at a book buying source to recoup the few dollars you spent on them. If you can't sell them back, at least you'll have the pleasure of knowing you saved hundreds of dollars on your textbooks and moved one step closer to furthering your educational goals without breaking the bank.

Why Are Textbooks So Expensive?
Why Are Textbooks So Expensive?
In today's job market, a college education has become the minimum bar to enter the workforce at an entry level position. Many candidates are seeking jobs with a minimum of a bachelor's degree, putting those candidates without one at a great disadvantage. What's more, employers are less concerned with the candidate's bachelor's degree concentration as they are with candidates' exemplary achievements of discipline, intelligence and focus that a degree requires. This signals to the potential employer that the applicant is more likely to be reliable and should make a good employee. Economists refer to this as a screening/signaling device for employers. Based on the assumption that having a college degree puts one at an advantage when interviewing for a job, let's then explore why so many American's still lack a college degree in today's marketplace.
TextbooksThe cost of education is usually the foremost reason why people either never start college, or begin but later drop out. One of the main costs associated with obtaining a college education, besides tuition expenses, are books. According to the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the cost of college textbooks have increased 200% over inflation during the past two decades. This is an astonishing figure considering textbook inflation is roughly the same as tuition inflation during that same period.
Students are certainly feeling the pinch from the increased cost of textbooks. Daniel Cooper, a student at Northlake College in Irving Texas said, "I spent about 0 on classes last semester before books. I was shocked when I went to the bookstore and found out my books cost more than my classes." One of the problems Mr. Cooper faced at the end of the semester was selling his books back. "I went to sell my books back to the library, and out of the six books I had, three of them they wouldn't buy back, one of them I bought for 2, and they offered me for it, and the other two combined, I sold for ." He continued, "Out of the three books they wouldn't buy, two of them were lab manuals for biology courses at Northlake, so if they wouldn't buy them, I have no option to sell them."
What Mr. Cooper experienced is something that a lot of students experience at the end of each semester; the bookstore buyback issue. Most bookstores make an average profit margin of 22% on books they sell. At the end of the semester, they typically buy books back at roughly 50% of what they sold them for and then resell them for slightly less than the original sales price. In effect, they are selling the same books multiple times which in turn drives up their profits. This is a completely logical maneuver for the bookstore, but unfortunately, the student gets the short end of the stick.
CONTRIBUTORS TO HIGHER COSTS:
So why do textbooks prices keep going up? Textbooks, along with tuition and other fees, are affected by inflation. By nature, a new product this year is going to be less than the same new product five years from now. Inflation, however, is not the main reason why the costs of textbooks have increased in recent years. According to the GAO, one of the main reasons contributing to increased textbook costs has to do with the rising costs associated with developing products designed to accompany textbooks. These products include such things as CD-ROMs and other instructional supplements requested by the instructors of the courses. Although the instructors feel these ancillary products are important, many wholesalers, retailers, and others expressed concern that the creation of these new "supplements," in addition to more frequent revisions, might unnecessarily increase costs to students.
WAYS TO SAVE:
Although the costs of textbooks are continually rising, there are creative ways to save. E-commerce has opened up a whole new market for college textbooks. Places like Amazon.com and Half.com (a subsidiary of eBay) allow students to purchase books over the internet which may be cheaper than their local bookstore. Once students finish a semester, they can go to these sites to re-sell their books online. Although buying books online can significantly save students money, there are some drawbacks. First, students may not be able to find the books they are looking for. Additionally, when buying and selling textbooks online, shipping cost and time can often be a major deterrent. Although small, retail websites do charge a commission for selling books.
Another alternative with similarities to the e-commerce sites, are sites that provide students with an opportunity to buy and sell books to other students at their particular college/university with no fee. It's simply an online marketplace that lets users locate their college or university, and either list a book they want to sell or contact someone with a book listed that they want to buy. This option makes it somewhat easier for students since they do not have to worry about shipping costs, fees, or time frames. The one drawback, like the other e-commerce sites, is book availability. However, these sites can be helpful to students like Mr. Cooper, who purchased books that are only used at one particular school.
Textbooks are an essential part of obtaining a college education. They are full of knowledge and need to be continually updated if they are to remain current. By remaining focused and persistent, almost anyone has the intelligence to graduate college, and with a few of these money saving tips, they can find creative ways to pay for it too.

Where Should I Buy My Textbooks For My College Or University Course?
Where Should I Buy My Textbooks For My College Or University Course?
In this the latest extract from the textbook I wrote to help students like you called 'The Secret Guide To Academic Writing & Study' I seek to consider the importance that many schools, colleges and universities place upon detailed reading lists and establishing core texts (i.e. the teaching of the course you are studying will largely be based upon those books your teachers feel provide a suitable accompaniment to the subject you are studying) for your course for improving yours studies. Therefore, this article seeks to offer some general hints and tips on purchasing the textbooks that you need to enhance your chances of success.
TextbooksWith this in mind, whilst it is undeniably unfortunate, the reality is that when looking to obtain your textbooks you need to appreciate schools, colleges and university libraries only ever stock a certain number of textbooks by any given author for any particular subject. As a result, it is quite likely a textbook that your subject teachers look upon as being of particular importance for any assessment will be in great demand as deadline day approaches so as to only further emphasise the importance of starting your coursework assignments early.
On this basis, you may find it worth your while to invest in the most important of these textbooks either at the student bookshop on campus at your college, university or at a retailer like Waterstones. However, this does not mean your budget for the semester or even the entire year needs to be completely drained overnight. Therefore, a good starting place for purchasing your books, particularly the further you go in higher education, is the university bookshop that may offer prices marginally lower than the high street and specialise in your university's subjects.
Your college or university Student Union may also offer students like you a textbook exchange service where, once you have finished with a textbook, you can then sell these textbooks on via your college or university Student Union who will take a small cut. Moreover, purchasing textbooks on-line has also become a major growth industry as both Amazon and BOL ('Books Online') allow you to buy second-hand books which is great for students at college or university, whilst AbeBooks also allows you to buy or sell a book directly at a fixed cost which is very good for your bank balance on both counts (found on Google or any other search engine)!
In addition, if you choose to purchase second hand books from any of the sources I have identified, please BE AWARE that your subject teachers at your college or university may want you to have the most up to date editions because the information in earlier editions may be out of date. Therefore, I would advise you to check with a teacher before you consider purchasing any second hand books for your college or university course.
However, if you do purchase books from a first-hand retailer, do not be afraid to ask for a discount if you are purchasing a number of educational titles for your college or university course - you will usually get up to 10% OFF with your NUS ('National Union of Students') Card in the UK - and you may find that if the price is still high you could get a further discount if you pay with cash by saying something like -
"I want these books, but on the Internet I could save £X, I want to buy them now, can you do the same?"
REMEMBER - It is ALWAYS a good idea to ask because you could save money since academic books are NOT usually most book stores biggest sellers!

Concepts revised textbooks for Enterprise Resource Planning
Textbooks are usually dull and boring. Some can be read also in the field of torture, although a good book. But the concepts of the third edition of the Enterprise Resource Planning by Bret Wagner, Ellen Monk and really change the concept of a boring manual.
TextbooksWhat's really nice is that this book is short and to the point. In general, the manuals, especially in the IT industry, we know that draws thousands of pages. This manual only 254 pagesis a reasonable interpretation of a class. The content is still very intense, but short enough so that terms do not remain there for 50 or 100 hours trying to read the manual. This is a nice change from the norm.
The same manual is easy to read. There are a lot of problems with the tactics of the language. There you can some of the terminology is very technical, but the authors do a decent job of introducing these concepts. In addition, a list ofKey Terms at the end of each chapter you can go, if you missed something.
Screenshots of SAP are also incredibly useful for those who have never seen before SAP. Take screenshots of the GUI itself, rather than deep into the details of SAP code. It's great for the classroom to introduce ERP.
The questions at the end of this chapter is particularly useful for studying for an exam. Not too hard, because some teachers, who like to expressProposed approaches but usually if you can do the problems, then you have to understand the concept of this chapter. It was good to see you a few questions before an exam, to challenge, as there is a trend away from college text books.
Although this is not something that most people read for pleasure, if it is in a class of ERP therefore not to read negative. I just hope the luck in one class, the maps, the concepts of Third ERPEdited by Ellen Monk and Bret Wagner.

Electronic books are for everyone? Not necessarily
Electronic books are for everyone? Not necessarily
Students begin to buy their textbooks for this semester, a new utility - eBooks - growing in popularity and importance of advertising. However, there is a serious incident that many users overlook savings - to test the open book.
TextbooksAlthough eTextbooks some advantages, such as interactive learning to handle and the ability to offer heavy books, there are two serious drawbacks to many students.
The first is price. Save up to that in manyCases can be downloaded to a laptop to the students bring the laptop in class, you will find an outlet, and the possibility that your expensive laptop on campus could be damaged. If a student does not want to bring your laptop, eReader is available, but there are some drawbacks. The first is to save that downloading can save students are not necessarily compatible with all players. While the majority of the work, save for all the emergingCompanies, this could be problematic. In addition, readers are too expensive to save themselves, with prices ranging from $ 100 - $ 300 or more. Finally eTextbooks are usually more expensive than buying, and new textbooks, the secondary market. A comparison of the textbook website to compare the prices of textbooks, and are usually eTextbooks 3 or 4 times the cost of what a student might find a new manual for ".
The second problem - and perhaps most important - when you openTest date. If a student is entitled to use their textbooks during the test, most of the professors do not allow the student to electronic devices, while undergoing the test. Therefore, students can use, the eTextbooks or hard drive or a laptop that will be affected if a teacher gives them the opportunity to use their textbook while sitting for an exam. As computers, and most players do not just students, notes and other information will save, but to connectThe Internet, it is doubtful that a teacher must allow anyone to use these devices - as it would be unfair to other students, the one book to have.
Saving addition, a student can use to save (if the software allows it) to print some sections, but the extra cost for paper, and the fact that a teacher can be assured that the information is printed only where students are With this test to prevent an open book. Finally, even if a teacher not printSavings, the cost - an average of $ 0.10 per printed page for a selection of 300 or 400 pages of text, the students would cost up to $ 40. When selected for the interim and final exams, doing spending $ 80 in total of the students will spend many times what they are buying the book happens in the online market could.
In short, all content eTextbooks offer some great, rich and other benefits are not necessarily account for a student to save money, and students canwith to buy a book that is still in the middle of the period or at the end of the semester - whether a teacher makes an open book test.
